The Mule
I present "The Mule" - this build has many reasons for this name, some of which I'll leave you to discover for yourself. This build is not available online - this is currently on display with my good friends at the Casa De Tobacco Cigar Lounge in Las Cruces, New Mexico and remains available for in-person purchase!
Every cigar box guitar I build has its own sound, quirks, and personality, and this particular build exemplifies that. The first box I chose for this build was pretty but it just didn't work, so this one got a box swap and makeover. It is still stubborn and temperamental - but it is a solid player that just needs the right driver.
This three-stringer is reigned with laser cut f-holes, a three-pole rosewood-faced humbucker with tone and volume controls and resonator springs, all trimmed with brass, gold, and chrome hardware. The tone on this build it a bit difficult to describe - it is warm and woody, resonant and sensitive while also being a bit compressed, and it'll kick and bray like any good mule if you push it too hard. This one requires a bit more carrot than stick - heavy handed players with thick picks might not get the best this build has to offer.
"The Mule" is currently strung with Ernie Ball strings and tuned to DAD.
