Of the Wolf

$330.00

"Of the Wolf" started life as a measuring tool case found at a yard sale quite a few years ago and it was already old then. I couldn't tell you exactly what year but it's definitely legal to drink. It used to have a bad colonial maple lacquer job, an old leather handle that was disintegrating, and some brittle injection-molded plastic on the inside that has long since been removed. It's not even truly square. I knew it was going to be something for a future art project but I didn't know what, so I've used it to store various keepsakes and rando artifacts.

Now it's a guitar.

This box has been sanded down to the bare wood and then laser engraved with some great vintage cigar box art on the front and a clip from an old 17th century bestiary on the back. The interior has been repainted with a color shifting iridescent paint and a special cut of my "Be Not Afraid" print appears as the interior art. All the hardware on this box has been replaced with silver and black velvet trim lines the box rim and all the guitar bits are silver as well, save for the walnut truss rod cover.

As for the noise-making bits, there is a specially wound, flat-mount humbucker called a Gittybucker mounted directly under the wolf. This is wired with tone and volume controls and a solid Puretone output jack. Four sound holes line the lid and a pair of large springs are located along the neck for reverb and extra kick.

The whole thing is set up with super low string action and finished with a nice, light application of tung oil.

As for the sound? Surprisingly bright and mellow all at once with just an ever so slight sight hint of growl in the low registers. It's not at all shouty, but then again neither are wolves. But it'll sing!
